Changing The World: Isn’t It Time We Do Something??

Standard

All the news broadcasters, television ads, and newspaper articles say we need to make this world a better place: make the environment cleaner, feed the hungry, get people off the streets, donate to people in need, TAKE TIME OUT OF YOUR DAY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! These are all things I have been thinking about, and mostly I think one thing about this: We do need to do something! We come home, from school, get something to eat, watch TV, call a friend, drink some water, go for a walk, do homework…. All the words I bolded are things not everyone has in this world. Some people go to bed hungry, some children grow up with no education, others can’t even find fresh water to drink! Don’t you think its time to stop wasting what we have and try to give to the people who have never experienced some of the things we take for granted everyday?? I do!

Lately I have been wanting to do something for the community, something that will make an impact on the world! And I keep thinking about this everyday.. I think about what I have, and how I can use those things to give back to some people who don’t. None of this thinking would come to my mind without my teacher, Mrs. Wassen, who constantly teaches the gifted program I am in, how to make a change, and how to work hard to do something that will make a difference. Last year, she taught our class How To Change The World in baby steps. Fist help something local, then think of how you can spread that across the province, then across all of Canada, then start thinking about North America, then larger and larger until people in Africa are being impacted.. What a thought huh? It really makes me feel eager to make a change, to do something good for the world. I feel bad if I wake up, go through my day, and go back to bed that night without feeling that I accomplished anything that will make even the smallest difference in the school, my home, or my town..

Anyway, in  the gifted class, my friend Hannah and I were asked to do a project (which all the students were assigned) where you pick an organization and find out how you can help it, and how they make the world/community a better place. We decided to do Canuck Place, and we were very happy to learn you can do many fundraisers to help go towards helping the kids in the hospice (thats what it is: a children’s hospice), and to build a new extension in Abbotsford, so then there can be two Canuck Place locations where children can feel safe, and happy. I really like this idea because some of the older kids may even be my age, and I love being a kid, and to think that some kids don’t get to live life to the fullest, it makes me sad. That is one of the reasons why we chose this organization, because it is giving back to people we may be able to relate to, or at least imagine how their lifes are compared to ours.

One more foundation I want to completely over load with donations is our communtiy’s food bank. I mean come on! 4 more weeks till Christmas, and some people will go to bed hungry, no gifts, no family gathering, NOTHING! This is a terrible thought but sadly it is true. I really want to use all my left over Christmas money to buy donations to the food bank. This is very important to me, because I am ver grateful for what I have, my family, food, shelter, and I just want to give people a little glimpse of what that looks like, nothing much, just a bowl of soup and a smile :). Something my school is doing also is doing a toy drive from the BCCH (British Columbia Children’s Hospital) so that the kids that have to spend Christmas Day in the hospital can have some toys to play with! I really think that is important because everyone deserves a gift on Christmas, no matter who they are, or what they have done.

So please think about this, and also thinka bout what YOU can do to change the world. Don’t just sit around, and think about how your life is hard, because somewhere out there, someone is having a really hard time, starving, freezing, or just being very lonely.. So do what you can, do the best you can, and do ALL you can! ❤ Because anyone can make a difference if they put effort into it 🙂

GO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!

Skating: Every Thursday!

Standard

Lots of people have been posting things about going skating on Thursdays, and the past two Thursdays, I went! It is so much fun, and I think I will be going again and again every Thursday!

So many people come, here is a list of the people I remember that came, but I seriously think there was over 30 of us! OK, so Chloe, Me, Branden, Kim, Hannah, Mac, Keagan, Jered, Dani, Natalie, Nick, Hannah M, Jayden, Anton, Dale and WAY more people! It was so cool.

When I got to the rink, I instantly saw the group of people and started talking to them. Everyone was taking pictures with their IPod Touch’s and there are so many on Facebook now, it’s not even funny 😉 . Anyway, Once we all wanted to start going skating, we went up to the counter and asked if we could start skating.. Sadly, it was full and we had to write our names on a waiting list, which we thought would only take a couple minutes to go through. Well, it ended up it took an hour, so we spent this time drinking French Vanilla Slushies! They are really over priced but they are worth it.. The bad thing is that I let some people drink some of it, but when i got it back, half of the slushie was gone!! UGH!

The time slowly went by and then they called our names. Kim, Dani and I went up to the counter and got our skate rentals. We gave her money and then she didn’t accept it, which was really cool! 😉 We asked why and she said that we shouldn’t have to pay since we were waiting an hour to start skating. This was a good start, and we got in, put on our skates, and started skating! We had lots of fun (but not when JERED was throwing snow balls at us 😉 )

But anyone who didn’t come skating yesterday, you should come next Thursday, because it is really fun.. And you never know,  you might get in for free!!! XD

Hockey Skates are easier to skate in!

Friends: Characteristics Paragraph

Standard

Friends are people that are almost as important to your life as family members are. But what makes a good friend? The first thing all good friends have is patience. Patience is important because if for example, you are frustrated or just having a bad day, having a patient friend to listen and put up with all the freaking out you could be doing. The second thing all good friends need to do is accept something about you like your music tastes. They need to accept that all people are different. The last thing all friends need is to be trustworthy. This is a must because knowing that anything that you say can be kept private is comforting, and makes a friendship very good. For example, if your dog died you wouldn’t want it spread. These are all things good friends should have.

OMG! CURL YOUR HAIR WITH SOCKS!

Standard

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH! Good morning everyone! I just discovered the greatest thing, EVER! This amazing this is how to curl your hair with…..socks! It may sound silly, but it is the greatest way to curl your hair without heat, I swear! Here are the steps to get amazing heatless curls overnight!:

Step 1:

The first step is to get socks. The longer and thicker your hair, the more socks you will need. I did mine in two layers but that is really uncomfortable to sleep in, so I suggest just doing one layer of socks..

Step 2:

The second step is do spray a small section of hair with water (I just use an empty body sprayer as a water sprayer). After your hair is DAMP, NOT DRIPPING, you are going to take the sock and place it at the half way mark of the section of hair.

Step 3:

The third step is to leave the end and curl it around the sock.. This is important because to get the perfect curl, you must curl the end at the right time (AKA the next step…)

Step 4:

The fourth step is to curl your hair around the sock, and while your doing this, start to curl the end around the sock. This is key to making the curls perfect.. I think that if you have more than the length of your middle finger of the end once you curl it all the way that you should re do it.

Step 5:

The fifth step is to tie a knot with the sock, so the two ends of the sock are going to tie together to make a knot, I suggest you do a very tight knot because you have to sleep in them, and you don’t want them to slip. And don’t worry about not being able to get them out, because they are really easy to untie in the morning!

REDO STEPS 2-5 UNTIL YOUR FULL HEAD OF HAIR IS FULL OF SOCKS!!!

*PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU DON’T THINK THIS INSTRUCTIONS ARE GOOD ENOUGH, CLICK HERE TO GO TO A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT I LEARNED FROM, AND PLEASE COMMENT IN THE BOX BELOW SO I CAN LEARN HOW TO WRITE INSTRUCTIONS BETTER! 🙂 *

This is how my curls turned out!

Pinterest: MUST SEE SITE!

Standard

Hey guys! It snowed yesterday, and I LOVED it. Too bad it only snowed for about an hour until the rain took over….I wonder if it will ever feel like WINTER instead of RAINTER… haha. Anyway, I am sure many of you have heard of the site Pinterest, but do you really know how awesome it is?! I think not..

Pinterest is an online pinboard that lets you share your interests and pin them! (hense the term PINTEREST!) Anyway, there are many different things to post on pinterest such as hairstyles you are into, fashion, books, food, DIY ideas, and so much more! This is so much fun because you can repin other peoples pins and make your own captions underneath. I LOVE this site!

An example of a hair photo I found via PINTEREST!

Its great, and has helped me a lot. It has helped me because the pictures have links behind them, which means when you double click the full sized image, the website it came from comes up, which usually has a recipe, video and instructions!
